Kudos to Local Law Enforcement
February 21, 2018
Congratulations to the Warrenton Police Department and Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, whose combined efforts led to the February 20 arrest of two Town residents who were charged with heroin distribution.
“There’s no place that isn’t affected by the opioid crisis, including Warrenton,” Sunny said. “I’m grateful to our local law enforcement agencies for continuing to do their part in following through on this issue.”
A staunch public safety supporter, Sunny sits on the Town’s Public Safety and Transportation Committee and has regularly supported requests from the Warrenton Police Department and pushed for additional funding for the Fire Department.
Sunny Represents Fauquier’s Boys and Girls Club in Richmond
2018 is Off to a Terrific Start for the Boys & Girls Club of Fauquier
February 11, 2018
February has already been a great month for the Boys & Girls Club of Fauquier! In the same week, the Club was relieved of its $1.5 million building debt as well as praised for its many ongoing efforts by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam at the 2018 Legislative Day, sponsored by the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.
“I went to represent our local club and all the fantastic work we do here.”
Sunny attended the Richmond event, along with Club Executive Director Lynne Richman Bell and board members James Hartman and Scot Small. The purpose of this statewide event, which was attended by dozens of Club members from across the Commonwealth, was threefold:
- To increase recognition and public awareness of Boys & Girls Clubs among Legislators, State Agencies, and other Statewide Stakeholders.
- To provide a venue for Club Professionals and Board Volunteers to participate in the education of State Legislators.
- To explore all funding opportunities to support fitness and healthy living, nutrition education, educational enhancement programs provided by statewide Boys & Girls Clubs, and the continuation of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) funding, as well as to support the prevention of drug abuse, teen pregnancy, and delinquency.
The Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs provided an agenda which described its current priorities and partnerships. Sunny and her colleagues had the opportunity to lobby for continued funding for the Virginia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs by meeting with Delegates Elizabeth Guzman and Michael Webert, as well as an aid for Jill Vogel.
The entire group was led into the Capitol gallery, where a resolution was made from the floor to recognize the efforts of Boys & Girls Club staff, board members, and volunteers. “We got a standing ovation from the delegates!” Sunny said. “It was very exciting, and I’m so glad I went to represent our local club and all the fantastic work we do here.”
