As a public school art teacher, I support Sunny Reynolds for her re-election to the Warrenton Town Council. Sunny is a strong leader in our community and shows great support for the arts!
In the past four years, I have gotten to know Sunny while collaborating on several art openings for Fauquier County Publics Schools’ Art Departments. We have worked closely together to open four shows at Studio 19, her gallery space in Old Town Warrenton.
Sunny offered to help the art teachers when she heard we had started a Youth Art Month Art Walk. In this art walk, students from kindergarten to twelfth grade display artwork in the businesses on Main Street. She encouraged us to not only show the artwork but celebrate it! She has hosted three opening shows for students and their families. When our kids come and talk about art in her studio space, they gain the experiences of a professional artist. After an afternoon of chatting about their work in the studio, students and families go into our town to look at more work hanging in over 30 businesses. Sunny is a key facet in making this event a great success for our community!
Marisa Pappas, Warrenton Middle School art teacher, has participated in all of Sunny’s gallery openings. She says, “Sunny is a great supporter of the arts here in Warrenton, especially when it involves our children. She is an asset to our community as she cares about what is important for our town.”
Sunny also keeps pushing creative ideas. After two student shows, she offered her gallery space to the art teachers of Fauquier County. She noticed that not only were we art teachers, but also artist ourselves. It is this caring that helps make our community stronger. We filled her studio with teacher artwork ranging from paintings to sculptures and invited family, friends, and students to come and celebrate our art. It was a fabulous evening where our students could see their teachers in a different light. Our thanks goes out to Sunny for helping us achieve this.
We look forward to having another student opening on March 10, 2018. Due to Sunny’s backing and ingenuity, our students and teachers have felt a warm embrace from the Town of Warrenton.
In summary, Sunny is a remarkable community member and leader. Thank you for taking the time to read how she has supported the arts in our neighborhood.
